Andrew Tate is one of the most active and influential misogynists on the internet. Truly a vile individual, he has been charged with rape and human trafficking. While we might all wish that he was a fringe character, Tate is in fact quite mainstream. According to YouGov, Tate is the #1 influencer among American men. YMRI’s survey in the summer of 2024 found that 50% of men 18-29 said they liked Tate (with half saying they trusted his views and the other half not).
And recently, there are signs of worrying ties between figures in the incoming Trump administration and Andrew Tate. Both Trump allies and Tate view themselves as similar figures being victimized by accusations from nefarious figures, particularly women. (Intriguingly, Ben Shapiro argues the right should dump Tate).
Alina Habba, counselor to President-Elect Trump, said in a shared interview with Tate on Benny Johnson’s show, that she was “a big fan” and “I sympathize with you.”
When Tristan Tate, Andrew’s brother and sidekick, wrote “It is very strange everybody on earth NOW talking about the rape gang scandal. As a British man in my 30s we all remember when it went on and was suppressed by the news. Everybody knew but nobody seemed to give a shit. Let's hope this new spotlight illuminates some skeletons,” Elon Musk replied “Justice will be served.” Musk will soon have his own office at the White House.
When @BehizyTweets wrote, “What Andrew Tate is doing will be studied for many years. Even if he doesn't win and become Prime Minister, his involvement will transform British politics & create an army of men demanding change. ‘My success, even if I do not become Prime Minister, will force the parties of the UK to address the issues they don't want to address.’” Musk replied, “He’s not wrong.”
Matt Gaetz, who had to withdraw his nomination as Trump’s attorney general, quote-tweeted Tate, who wrote “They love to threaten your exes. Trying to scare girls into lying.” Gaetz wrote in turn, “Multiple male FBI agents once startled and scared my ex in a dark parking lot garage after she got off work. They tried to get her too lie. She refused.”
We will continue tracking these connections but obviously it is a worrying sign to see someone as hateful as Tate gaining traction and shaping the thinking of the incoming Administration.
Young men allowing Andrew Tate to become an influential figure is their cry for help.
The fact that we (Social Liberals) are losing to Tate is honestly, and truly pathetic.
